Air Mshl Vivek Hande AVSM, VSM assumed charge as Director General Medical Services (Air) on 01 Sep 2026.

Commissioned in Dec 1988, the Air Officer is an alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College, Tata Memorial Hospital and the National Defence College.

The Air Officer has held several specialist and administrative appointments in a career spanning more than 37 years. He is an experienced Physician & Gastroenterologist of national repute and has served in several AFMS hospitals as a specialist. His important administrative appointments include Executive Officer, Commanding Officer INHS Asvini, Senior Consultant (Medicine) and Director General (Org & Pers) in the office of DGAFMS prior to assuming his present appointment.

He was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 2026 and Vishist Seva Medal (VSM) in 2016.
